June

Unfortunately, we will be unable to travel to Zermatt this season and are looking forward to returning in 2022! Please stay tuned for our 2021 summer camp options.

MMSCA first traveled to Zermatt in 2002 to train on the glaciers of the Swiss Alps. Zermatt is the highest ski resort in Europe, lifts reach 3,884 meters, and the landscape offers dramatic views of the Matterhorn. The snow is very consistent at this time of year, and Zermatt’s “glacier paradise” is beautifully uncrowded. It is some of the best summer skiing in the world. The trip is open to all our student-athletes ages U12 and older. U12s must be accompanied by a parent.

Historically, the Zermatt trip has been the primary camp of the summer. Instead of scheduling multiple training camps, we plan one longer trip in June/July. This gives our student-athletes the time on snow they need, while keeping our summer training as cost-effective as possible. This camp is part of our periodized training program, it builds on athletic progressions that have been established throughout the year.

This trip offers athletes an amazing opportunity to build and refine skills without the pressure of competition season. Our goal is to build fundamental skills in all age groups through directed free skiing, drills, and repetition in even-rhythm courses. In a typical day, we will spend up to 4 hours on the glacier, and in this time athletes will be able to ski 12-18 runs. In the afternoons we will be involved in active recovery, and will continue our strength and conditioning utilizing our surroundings in Zermatt. We have the opportunity for all types of activities including hiking, biking, soccer, and volleyball.

It is crucially important that athletes take charge and ownership of their strength and conditioning between April and June to maximize the effectiveness of this three-week camp . MMSCA will provide a strength and conditioning program for our athletes to follow throughout the Spring. Our gym facilities will be available for our student-athletes to use, supported by our Strength and Conditioning Coach. We will host physical testing in May, and again in June prior to the trip.

We strongly believe that if athletes arrive physically prepared for this camp and maintain focus during our three weeks on-snow, we will progress fundamental skills that will pay dividends in the coming competition season. More specific details on daily schedules for each age group will be published closer to the departure date.
